Compound fireworks are the biggest fireworks we stock at Jordans. Two or more individual cakes are fused together and fire from a single ignition point, so one fuse gives you a multi minute display. They carry the highest shot counts and the longest run times in our range, which makes them the natural centrepiece or finale for any night. Light one, step back, and let it do the work.

What are Compound Fireworks?

A compound firework joins several individual cakes into one unit using internal fusing. You light one fuse and each section fires in turn. The piece moves through different effects, colours and firing patterns, and you never need to relight it.

These fireworks are a fairly recent innovation in the UK. Older pieces could hold more than 1kg of explosive powder on their own. Current regulations cap any single firework at 1kg. To keep displays long and powerful within the rules, manufacturers now join several smaller fireworks together, each one under the limit, into a single larger piece. The total powder weight runs to several kilos, and the show lasts minutes rather than seconds.

Inside a Compound Firework

Each piece is built from multiple firework tubes set at different angles. Straight tubes fire high and vertical. Fanned tubes spread the effects wide across the sky. A larger compound might bring together anywhere from two to five cakes, each with its own effect. Because the sections are linked by internal fusing, one ignition point sets off the whole sequence in the right order. For a complete display in a single piece, view our full range of single ignition fireworks.

The fusing also controls the timing, so a compound can build gradually or arrive all at once, with no gaps for you to manage. The result is the impact of a full display from a single product. Many compounds run for several minutes, so you cover an entire show with the fewest fuses to light.

How to use compound fireworks in a display

Compound fireworks are used best as a centrepiece or a grand finale. Light a few individual cakes and rockets first, then light a compound to finish and fill the sky at once.

You can also let one long piece carry the whole event. Light the single fuse, step back to a safe distance, and let it run while you hand out sparklers. Most compounds are Category F3, which needs a 25 metre safety distance, so a large garden, a field or open space works best.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a compound firework?

It combines two or more cakes into one unit, joined by internal fusing so the whole piece fires from a single ignition point. You get a longer, multi phase display that changes effect, colour and pace on its own.

How long do compound fireworks last?

Run times vary. Some compounds fire everything in under 30 seconds for a fast finale. Others run for two to five minutes. Each product page lists the shot count and duration.

Are compounds suitable for gardens?

Most are Category F3 and need a 25 metre safety distance, so you need a large garden or open space to use them safely. For a smaller garden, look at our F2 garden fireworks instead.

Do you offer free delivery?

Yes. Selected compound fireworks qualify for free delivery, and you can collect your order in store. Details are shown on each product page and at checkout.
